EUCC - The Coastal Union Germany

EUCC – The Coastal Union Germany (EUCC-D) was established as an association (NGO) in 2002 to promote sustainable marine and coastal management through Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM). By providing information, consultations and education and hosting workshops, conferences and demonstration projects EUCC-D works to bridge the gap between science and practice. EUCC-D has long-term experience in cross-border projects and networking in Szczecin Lagoon.

Within AQUAFIMA EUCC-D is involved in the case study Szczecin Lagoon and contributes to compilation and development of best practice management of sustainable, future oriented aquaculture in coastal waters. Based on the project results, EUCC-D will disseminate information using established EUCC-D tools (e.g. databases, magazines, photo competitions) and organise teaching units for different target groups to raise awareness about aquaculture.

Rostock Business and Technology Development GmbH

Rostock Business

Besides its activities in European projects, Rostock Business serves as the "one-stop agency" for investors doing business in Rostock. We are well equipped to mediate between entrepreneurs and the Hanseatic city. We help expanding or moving existing business and creating business networks like the local Wind Energy Network. Rostock Business provides competent and professional services for the marketing of Rostock as a business location. As a company devoted to the promotion of business and technology, we are the intermediary between business and the city, the partner of local companies, and the marketer of the city both on a national and international level.

Within the AQUAFIMA project, Rostock Business is working on different levels. As one focus, Rostock Business is involved in the management and development of internal as well as external communication. In this context, the dissemination of results will play a key role. In parallel, the acceptance for farmed fish and aquaculture among BSR citizens is another important topic. Besides, as a member of Work Package 5, Rostock Business will be involved in promoting fish and aquaculture in regional development.

State Development Cooperation Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

State Development Cooperation Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a state-owned, non-profit rural association. The federal state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which is located in Germany’s north east, holds 50.5 % of its shares. The company deals with the development of rural areas in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in a broader sense. The main tasks and services are: Land procurement, utilisation and reserve (areas for nature conservation, purchase of land for infrastructure measures e.g. road construction, industrial sites), Land consolidation and Land re-allocation according to public law, regional development (regional development programmes, regional management and regional marketing), Land-use planning (municipal land-use planning, master plans and urban development statues), village renewal, architect and engineer services for buildings in rural areas and investment advice for farmers

State Development Cooperation Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is responsible for the overall project administration on behalf of all partners and for the project communication. Furthermore, we are responsible for the policy paper on future fisheries management. Among other things, we will work out the regional employment potential of aquaculture for Germany.

University of Rostock

Rostock University is the oldest university in the Baltic Sea Region. Founded in 1419, it will soon celebrate its 600th anniversary and looks back on a long tradition in research and educating students. With the appointment of Professor Harry W. Palm the Professorship for Aquaculture and Sea-Ranching was constituted at the Faculty for Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The research of the work group focuses on the rearing of fish or aquatic invertebrates, parasites and bacteria in fish farming as well as environmental sciences. Additionally, the professorship together with other faculties and external organisations is responsible for the master programme “Aquaculture”. Due to the wide ranging tasks and scientific disciplines, the group consists of biologists and scientists from various backgrounds.

In the AQUAFIMA project we are the coordinator of Work Package 4. Thus, we will be responsible for the composition of an international M.Sc. curriculum and will create a concept for an international exchange scheme for the Baltic Sea Region.
